To Grandmother's House We Go Day 2: Lay n Go Lite Mat

Day 2 of our "To Grandmother's House We Go" Holiday Giveaways is here! (Did you enter to win Day 1 Shrunks Toddler Travel bed yet?). All giveaways run until Wednesday night!

Whether it is Legos or MatchCars or tiny animals, there are some collections our kids insist on traveling with that are more conducive to being scattered all over the airplane floor than staying on the lap tray. Same goes for road trips: I cannot tell you what all I find in my kiddos' car seats when I unload them at our destination. Seriously, how could you have been comfortable with all those toys jabbing you in the side?? And I am still bitter about the brand new baby Schleich lion I let my daughter unwrap on a flight once that then was NOWHERE to be found when it was time to deplane. Seriously. She had just opened it like 2 hours before. That little sucker was $4!

Enter the Lay n Go. I'm not even sure whether to call this a bag or a mat, because it is both. I guess you would say it is a mat that doubles as a bag, or maybe it's a bag that doubles as a mat . . . either way, you're looking at a fantastic solution to your travel toy woes. Transport them in the bag, then lay it out for playtime (the colors are reversible as well. If I had one, I think I would do the green/blue, so the mat could be conducive to easy ocean or grass imaginative play). The company also offers "traveler" bags so you don't have to dig around a toiletry bag for your products (and how quick would that be to clean up your hotel bathroom??) as well as a very large kids' sized play mat (this would be incredible for home use with all those darn Legos), and a couple of other innovative storage solutions. You can check out their website here.

The tag line for the Kids' line is "Play for hours . . . Cleanup in seconds." Now that is something I can get on board with! Literally.

If I am being totally honest, my favourite airplane activity for my toddler is giving her my ipad to watch a movie on. It's not very creative, but it's very effective at keeping her quiet! She never gets to use my ipad except for when we travel, so it is a very special treat for her and keeps her busy and thus keeps us happy! :-) We will be doing a long road trip this coming spring, so I will be looking for lots of ideas on things to keep her busy in the car - I really don't want to resort to technology for the drive, for her or for my other child. I will be interested in something more interactive, and I will be less concerned with keeping them quiet than I am on the plane. :-)

I like cute stuff like dot-to-dot workbooks, it's academic but they end up with a drawing.
